Paper Stock Experimentation

Now that I have decided on my fold I began to experiment with different types of stock to see what would be most appropriate. I focused on three different stocks, Tracing, Newsprint and normal Cartridge. I am after a stock with an appropriate gsm, which allows for it to be easily folded without being too thick or flimsy. I am aware that my leaflet has a lot of folds in, so if the stock is too thick it would be hard to get a neat fold. Vice versa.

Tracing Paper

I found that tracing paper was far too flimsy, the leaflet wouldn't hold its shape and tore easily, thus impractical for my design process leaflet. As much as I love working with tracing paper it just doesn't work for my leaflet. Another issue with tracing paper is that if I were to print on it, you would see through and I'm unsure whether this would work .

Newsprint

Since tracing paper didn't work, I began by looking at newsprint which has a similar gsm (45) to the tracing paper. However, still it was really flimsy . I want to use a thicker stock so that it can hold itself.

Orange Cartridge Paper

Apart from the garish colour for me cartridge paper was the best and most appropriate with 100 gsm which allows for neat folding whilst the leaflet holding its shape. The folds did not crack which will be good for when it comes to printing.
